This is definitely one of Maison Margiela Replica's most polarizing scents. In addition to On a Date, I have Bubble Bath, Beach Walk, By the fireplace, when the rain stops, and Jazz club. Those ones are all big hits and many will like. You cant really trust reviews for this one and it is not a good blind buy. It might be their worst one to attempt a blind buy since it smells vastly different depending on skin chemistry. Please, go to a store and smell it before purchasing it or trusting the reviews alone as it is not returnable on amazon. I am lucky and this scent works wonderfully with my skin chemistry and I already knew what it smelled like because I got it in a sample box. For some people, it can smell like cat pee on their skin (seriously, it can). This is due to the blackcurrant and patchouli combo, which on some, smells like a beautiful Rosé wine, and on others dries down very acrid depending on people's skin chemistry. If you have very salty skin or tend to sweat a lot, it will cause this to dry down more acrid. Thankfully, on my skin, it smells amazing. It is supposed to smell like wine, and it does. After the first hour the black currant wine note fades and it dries down into a powdery, patchouli-forward rose. Its very mature and classy. But not a safe fragrance in the sense that some people will still not like it even though it does dry down well on me and my skin chemistry allows the sweeter notes to shine thankfully. I get 50/50 split on this. I have people ask me what the fragrance it is that i'm wearing and that they "have never smelled anything so sweet and wine-like" or I get people that say it smells "too earthy and patchouli forward like a hippie." So the scent is just polarizing in nature, but I get the most comments in general when I wear this one becuase it is unique and people often cant place what the smell is and curiosity gets the best of them. If you dont like patchouli, its not for you. If you dont like rose, its not for you. If you have a skin chemistry that tends to add more depth and musk to fragrances, its not for you. If you want a safe fragrance that will be pleasing to many noses, its probably not for you. If you want a unique feminine fragrance that will be memorable, that nothing else can emulate, and that is oddly uplifting in an aromatherapy kind of way, smell it in a sample first or try it on your skin from a tester in store first, as the scent develops so differently on everyone's skin. I love it and it is memorable and wearing it makes me happy, even if some dont like it. I wear this one for me.
